Space Empires Online is a turn based 4x strategy game where you command a vast inter-stellar empire bent on conquering the galaxy. It's played entirely online against real people and features many layers of nuanced strategic gameplay. Imagine a game of Chess with a board thousands of times larger, configurable pieces, and up to dozens of players per game.

Highlights

• New map to explore in every game: each new game starts with a brand new, randomly generated galaxy map.
• Design your own starships: build fleets of ships of your own design. Well designed ships win more battles!
• Manage an inter-stellar economy: your empire will have revenues and expenses. You'll need to balance a budget!
• Wage inter-stellar wars: your neighbors want your planets. Can you mount an effective defense? Or will you conquer your neighbors first?
• Unified community: the central game server will help you find opponents and set up matches.
• No software installation necessary: play your turns from any computer that has a modern web browser.

What's in the beta?

• Customizable galaxy map sizes.
• Realistic star systems with planets that advance in their orbit around their host star each turn.
• Server-enforced, customizable turn time limits.
• Fog of war.
• Customizable graphics for your empire flag and shipset.
• Galaxy map screen complete with zooming and panning features.
• Star system map complete with gridlines toggle, empire flags toggle, orbital slots toggle, and wormhole names toggle.
• Ability to design and build simple colony ships and simple warships.
• Ability to engage in simple diplomacy with the other players.
• A simple economy (ships cost money to build and have maintenance costs).
• A simple space battle subsystem with simple battle animations.

What's not in the beta, but will be soon?

A number of features are still in development and won't be present until much later in the beta, such as:

• More components from which to design and build ships.
• Customizable combat strategies.
• Customizable fleet formations.
• Means of inter-stellar travel other than wormholes (such as warp drive).
• Weapons of mass destruction (such as destroying planets, stars, wormholes, etc).
• Higher resolution ship graphics.
• More nuanced diplomacy (such as leasing colonies/ships to allies, etc).
• More complex economy (such as various nuances to each colony that affects revenue/expenses).
• Intelligence subsystem (such as sabotage/espionage).
• Subsystem for investing in focused research and development of new technologies.
• Random events (such as natural disasters).
• Various subtle UI enhancements to various screens.
• And far too much more...

Before you join the fun, please be aware that this game is not yet finished and is still under active development. There are boatloads of missing features, tons of bugs, and some of the graphics are not yet finalized. Throughout the course of the beta there will be several new version pushes which will add new features and fix bugs. All game content is subject to change during development.
